Esse is designed with privacy at its core. We believe your video consumption habits and saved summaries are personal, and we have built our app to respect and protect that privacy. Your summary content and viewing history stay on your device unless you explicitly choose to share them.

Limited technical information

• Anonymous device identifier for app functionality

• Error logs for app improvement (no personal content)
• Anonymous purchase information for subscription management (via Apple or Google)

Information we do not collect

• We do not require you to create an account
• We do not collect personal information like your name, email, or phone number
• We do not track your location
• We do not access your contacts or other personal data
• We do not collect or analyze your YouTube browsing history
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools that identify you personally

How we use your information

Local data storage

All your video summaries and app preferences are stored locally on your device using secure iOS or Android storage systems. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it through the app’s sharing features.

AI processing

When you process a video, we send the video’s transcript (not your personal data) to OpenAI’s or Google’s service to generate summaries. The transcript is processed anonymously and is not stored on our servers.

Subscription management

Purchase information is handled securely by Apple or Google for subscription and one-time payments. We receive only anonymous entitlement data to enable premium features.

Data sharing and third parties

• We do not share, sell, or rent your personal information to third parties
• Video transcripts are processed by OpenAI for summarization only
• Purchase processing is handled by Apple or Google, with no additional sharing
• If you choose to share summaries using the app’s sharing feature, you control what gets shared and where
• We do not use third-party analytics services that track individual users

Data retention and deletion

Since we do not require or maintain user accounts, all your data is stored locally. You can delete your data at any time by deleting specific summaries or by uninstalling the app from your device, which permanently removes all locally stored information.

Welcome to Esse

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Esse mobile application (“App”) distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. By downloading, installing, or using our App, you agree to these Terms and, where applicable, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement or Google Play’s Terms of Service, which these Terms supplement. You must be at least 13 years old to use this App.

Description of service

Esse is a YouTube video summarization app that uses AI to create concise summaries. The App provides:

• AI-powered YouTube video summarization
• Dual output format: paragraph summaries and key points
• Local storage of summaries and video metadata
• Personal library with search functionality
• Sharing functionality for summaries
• Time-saved tracking and statistics
• Clipboard monitoring for effortless video processing

Free tier and premium access

All users receive 3 free summaries upon installation. After that, premium access is available via in-app purchases through Apple’s or Google Play’s In-App Purchase systems, including subscriptions (Weekly, Monthly, Yearly) and a lifetime one-time purchase for unlimited summaries. Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date via your App Store or Google Play account settings. All purchases are non-refundable except as required by applicable law or store policies.

License to use

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes on mobile devices you own or control. You may not distribute the App over a network for use by multiple devices simultaneously. If you sell your device, you must remove the App beforehand. You may not copy (except as permitted by this license), reverse-engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive the source code of, modify, or create derivative works of the App, its updates, or any part thereof, except as permitted by applicable law or open-source licensing terms.

You may

• Use the App to summarize YouTube videos for personal learning
• Save and organize summaries in your personal library
• Share summaries using the App’s built-in sharing feature
• Search through your saved summaries

You may not

• Reverse engineer, modify, or distribute the App
• Use the App for illegal or harmful purposes
• Share your App installation with others
• Use the App for commercial purposes without permission
• Overwhelm our services with excessive requests

In-app purchases and subscriptions

Premium features are available via Apple’s and Google Play’s In-App Purchase systems. Subscriptions auto-renew after the initial period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date through your App Store or Google Play account settings. Lifetime access is a one-time purchase. All purchases are non-refundable except as required by applicable law or store policies. You are responsible for managing your subscriptions via your respective store account.

User content and sharing

When you share summaries outside the App using our sharing feature, you are solely responsible for the content you choose to share. We are not responsible for any consequences that may arise from your decision to share summaries on social media or other platforms. You agree not to use the App or its sharing features to harass, abuse, stalk, threaten, or defame any person or entity.

Third-party services

The App integrates with third-party services, such as YouTube, to provide video summarization. You use these services at your sole risk. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or availability of third-party services, including any financial, medical, or location data they may display. You agree to comply with all applicable third-party terms when using the App. We may change, suspend, or restrict access to third-party services at any time without notice or liability.

Data collection

You agree that we may collect and use non-personally identifiable technical data, including device information, system and application software details, and usage patterns, to improve the App’s performance, provide updates, and enhance our services. This data will not personally identify you.

Intellectual property

The App, including all content, features, and functionality, is owned by us and protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You retain ownership of summaries stored on your device. You may not use our intellectual property without prior written permission, except as allowed by this license.

Disclaimers and limitations

The App and its services are provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranty of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, and non-infringement of third-party rights. AI-generated summaries may not be 100% accurate, and we are not liable for any errors. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business interruption, arising from your use or inability to use the App, even if advised of such damages. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the App, or $50.00, whichever is less. Some jurisdictions may not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so these may not apply to you.

Export compliance

You may not use or export the App except as permitted by United States law and the laws of the jurisdiction where the App was obtained. The App may not be exported or re-exported to U.S.-embargoed countries or to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department’s Specially Designated Nationals List or the U.S. Department of Commerce Denied Persons List or Entity List. By using the App, you represent that you are not located in such a country or on such a list and will not use the App for purposes prohibited by U.S. law, including the development of nuclear, missile, or chemical/biological weapons.

Store provider as third party beneficiary

You acknowledge and agree that Apple Inc. and Google LLC, and their subsidiaries, are third party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that upon your acceptance of these Terms, they will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third party beneficiary.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Serbia, excluding its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes will be resolved in competent courts in Serbia. If you reside in the European Union, Norway, Iceland, or Switzerland, the governing law and courts of your usual place of residence apply to disputes arising from these Terms. The United Nations Convention on the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
